Grandma K’s Molasses Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 tablespoons sour milk (make it sour by adding a 1–2 teaspoons of vinegar until it curdles a bit)
  • 1 cup light molasses
  • 6 cups flour, sifted
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

Preheat Oven

400°

Combine

Cream shortening and sugar.

Add eggs.

Mix flour, baking soda, salt and spices together.

Add to shortening mixture with milk and molasses. Stir together. Refrigerate dough for several hours.

Roll Out

dough about ¼ inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.

Place on greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.

Decorate before baking if desired.
